The much-awaited Diwali festive spending offer from American Express (Amex) is here. But, this year we are in for a disappointment. Unlike previous offers, we have steeper spending targets with not so lucrative rewards. Here are the complete details for the Amex 2022 Diwali Offer.

The reward rate is around 4% for all the offers. The high spend targets make it more difficult to plan for these offers. Imagine spending Rs 7 Lakhs just to get Rs 30000 worth of Taj vouchers. Absolute madness! I don’t know who even thought of having such spending targets.

My Take
I am somewhat disappointed to see this kind of offer from American Express. We had a bonus return of up to 9.5% in the Diwali spend offer provided for 2021. This time, it is 4%! I don’t expect many will make an effort to even try for this kind of return.
The second problem is spending targets. They are steep and beyond reach for many. Some have got spend targets exceeding their credit limit.
