Verdict: A solid mid-tier travel card with excellent transfer partners, though it lives in the shadow of the Axis Atlas.
The merger of Citi India’s consumer business with Axis Bank is finally concluding. For many holding the popular Citi PremierMiles card, the new reality is the Axis Bank Horizon Credit Card.
Axis Bank has positioned the Horizon as a direct replacement, maintaining the travel DNA of its predecessor. But is it an upgrade or a downgrade? With a joining fee of ₹3000, it sits right in the competitive mid-range segment. Here is our in-depth review to help you decide if you should keep it or switch to the Axis Atlas.
New applications for the Axis Atlas Credit Card are currently paused. While existing holders can use their cards, new customers cannot apply. The Axis Horizon is now the primary mid-tier travel option for new customers.
At a Glance: Key Specifications
Fees and Welcome Benefits
The Axis Horizon maintains a straightforward fee structure. Unlike some entry-level cards, there is currently no annual fee waiver condition based on spending, which is a slight drawback compared to other cards in this bracket.
- Joining Fee: ₹3000 + GST (~₹3540)
- Welcome Benefit: 5000 EDGE Miles
- Renewal Fee: ₹3000 + GST (~₹3540)
- Renewal Benefit: 1500 EDGE Miles
Is the fee justified? The 5000 EDGE Miles welcome bonus is worth approximately ₹5000 or more if you transfer them to airline partners (assuming a conservative value of ₹1 per mile). This effectively makes the first year free. However, from the second year onwards, the renewal benefit drops to 1500 miles, meaning you are paying a net cost for the card unless you can extract a value of more than ₹1 for the EDGE Mies.

Lifetime FreeRewards Structure: How You Earn
The Horizon card simplifies the earning mechanism compared to older Axis cards. You earn EDGE Miles directly.
The “Hotel Gap” vs. Axis Atlas
A critical distinction between the Horizon and the Axis Atlas is the hotel category.
- Axis Atlas: Earns accelerated rewards on Airline AND Hotel spends.
- Axis Horizon: Only earns accelerated rewards (5x) on Airline spends.
If you swipe the Horizon card directly at a hotel (e.g., at the Marriott front desk), you will only earn the base rate (2x). To get 5x on hotels, you must book through the Axis Travel EDGE portal, which might not always offer the best rates and also the Marriott Bonvoy program benefits.
The Missing Feature: No Milestones
Unlike the Axis Atlas, the Horizon card has zero milestone benefits. You will not earn bonus points for hitting spend targets, nor can you waive the annual fee by spending more. Whether you spend ₹1 Lakh or ₹10 Lakhs, your earn rate remains flat.
EDGE Miles Redemption
- 1 EDGE Mile = Rs 1 for booking flights/hotels on Travel EDGE Portal. This can be used for booking revenue flights like IndiGo on Travel EDGE.
- 1 EDGE Mile = 1 Partner Point for points transfer to partners
Even though we earn EDGE Miles on both Atlas and Horizon, the Horizon gets half the redemption rate. Though, the Atlas does have a 66% higher fee as well.
Axis Bank Horizon Credit Card Transfer Partners: The Hidden Power
This is the strongest feature of the Horizon card. It shares the premium transfer partner list found on the super-premium Magnus and Reserve cards.
Redemption Ratio: 1 EDGE Mile = 1 Partner Point / Air Mile
The Horizon card has a unique “Capping” system that is actually better than the Axis Atlas for certain airlines.

Axis Horizon gets access to all the transfer partners that Magnus, Atlas and Reserve get. Total EDGE Miles that can be transferred to partner points in a calendar year is capped to 5 Lakh EDGE Miles per customer ID. There is also a group wise sub-capping. We can transfer a maximum of 1 Lakh EDGE Miles cumulatively to partners in Group A and a maximum of 4 Lakh EDGE Miles to partners in Group B in a calendar year. This sub-capping is only for Horizon. You can however hold multiple Axis or HDFC cards and then pool those miles into partner accounts.
Our favourites in this list would be KrisFlyer, Club ITC, Miles&Smiles, FlyingBlue, MileagePlus and Accor. For Marriott Bonvoy, Amex cards continue to be our preferred option.
Lounge Access & Other Benefits
For frequent flyers, the lounge access on Horizon is generous, especially for domestic travel.
- Domestic Lounge: 8 visits per quarter (Visa variant) or 6 visits (Mastercard). This is significantly higher than most cards in this fee range.
- International Lounge: 2 visits per quarter via Priority Pass.
- Fuel Surcharge Waiver: 1% waiver on transactions between ₹400 and ₹5,000 (Max waiver ₹500/month).
- Dining Delights: 25% off up to ₹800 at partner restaurants via EazyDiner.
Comparison: Axis Horizon vs. Axis Atlas
Since the Axis Atlas is priced slightly higher (₹5000 + GST), many users are confused about which one to pick.
Eligibility & Application Criteria
Axis Bank generally looks for the following criteria for the Horizon card:
Final Verdict
The Axis Bank Horizon Credit Card is a worthy successor to the Citi PremierMiles. It fits perfectly for a traveler who:
- Values simplicity: A direct earn rate (5%) on flights without complex milestone tiers.
- Needs volume: Wants to transfer large amounts of miles (up to 4 Lakhs) to partners like Air India or Flying Blue.
- Domestic Travel: Needs high domestic lounge access limits.
Who should skip it? If you are a heavy spender (> ₹10L/year) or a “miles maximizer,” the Axis Atlas offers double the reward value and lucrative milestone bonuses that the Horizon lacks.
