Hey everyone! Let’s talk credit cards. 💳

those are a lot of travel cards, ever thought of replacing all of them with either Magnus Burgundy/Horizon(when applications open) or HDFC Infinia/HSBC Premier.

I’m quite happy with the yearly benefits I receive from my Emirates and Etihad. Etihad Airways, in particular, is my favorite—they’ve upgraded me to business class for free (no miles or charges involved) six times on the CDG-AUH-CDG sector aboard their A380;). My major expenses are airline-related, so these cards work perfectly for my needs.

As for upgrades, my Axis Bank RM mentioned that I could upgrade from Atlas to Olympus whenever it becomes available, which is something I’m considering. I primarily focus on redeeming card points for Airmiles, which aligns with my travel-heavy spending.

I’ve also spoken about the RBL World Safari card on this forum before. The 0% Forex markup is a great feature, and they’ve always been accommodating by waiving any fees. So for now, I’m sticking with my current setup—it’s been working well for me!

1. SBI Prime
2. Kotak IndianOil
3. Yes bank business prosperity credit card
4. Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card
5. HDFC Moneyback Credit Card
6. TATA Neu HDFC Credit Card

No body gets a free lunch. - Going for a credit card (with hefy joining and annual fees) purely for rewards point is not a productive thing in my opinion. We spend lots of time on tracking expenses to be sure of completing annual spend milestone to get subsequent year's annual fees waived off. And if we have many cards, this becomes additional challenge as for all such waiver annual fees cards we need to complete spend annually. for more than 15 years, I am holding HDFC, ICICI, Axis,, HSBC, StanChart Manhattan, IDBI, InduSind, & IDFC credit cards, all mostly platinum and LTF (Zero annual fees and NOT annual fees waiver upon certain spend using card) I ensured that I used these minimum once a year to avoid deactivation for so many years. I did not see any issue while using any card or with customer support. With my goal of having any LTF credit card (no need to track annual fees of spend to get annual fee waived off) I noticed, ICICI, HDFC and Axis are good credit cards.

To leverage early bird offers of Rupay credit card like discounts and cashbacks since 2022, I enjoyed Indian Bank (SB AC Req), BoB, UBI(SB AC Req), Canara Bank(SB AC Req), PNB and Kotak. As ICICI and HDFC were not issuing Rupay add-on CC, I went for these PSU bank credit card and wherever required opened savings account. And had collected good cashback on these Rupay and credit cards transactions on UPI app were seamless. Now closed all Rupay CC except BoB. Closed it as to keep number of credit cards manageable and PNB and UBI started annual fees on Rupay CC. BoB Rupay is still free and gives cashback.

Other cards like Standard Chartered Manhattan, HSBC, IndusInd, IDFC and IDBI (platinum and LTF) are ok and nothing great on rewards and offers (unless one goes for other variant with hefty joining and annual fees). IDBI website is not great. Had opted for IDFC no-EMI credit card offer and found interest changed on the monthly statement for EMIs. Recently had issue with IndusInd as they have removed humans as customer care team and everything is IVR based not addressing failed transaction issue reporting. Now a days all banks keep changing T&C and we have seen lounge access vanishing from many cards.

Instead I would suggest try SBI that has maximum offers on Amazon or even ICICI and HDFC. No point in applying for other cards unless it is corporate credit card and your are frequent flyer/traveler. I do not have one, but planning to go for it. Many times on Amazon,. I have to use my brother's SBI card and hence impressed with it.

Summery - If we keep minimum cards with primary (Visa/Master card) + Rupay add-on card, and use it heavily across Rupay and other purchases, it would help get more points. Hence no point is hunting for higher rate rewards card.

I disagree with you. I have been using Credit Cards for 12 years now. And I have owned more than 36 cards by now. LTF is good to have, but your point here is more about Cashback and offer-related cards. When you begin your journey, it's about having good cashback and offer-based cards, but as you upgrade, it becomes more about Reward Points. Start accumulating reward points, burn them for free flights and hotel stays, and youwill see why people prefer Rewards over Cashback. Yearly, I pay approx. 43K INR + GST in India and €350 in Europe to maintain my cards, and the rewards I get are next-level.

I am not preferring cashback over rewards, for me those are just benefits. The point is to pay small/hefty joining+annual fees or to commit spending to these waived off. to earn these. And cards that give good rewards do have these charges like redeeming fees, joining and annual fees. As I mentioned on another response on different thread, if cardholder is a frequent flyer and/or having corporate credit card making her/him earn miles that prove to be profitable after paying annual fees, they should enjoy. If you are benefitting by paying 80,000+tax to earn rewards and miles, enjoy!!!

Coming back to the original thread and post.. These are the following cards I'm holding.
ICICI emeralde metal
HSBC premier
Diners Club black plastic-LTF
Axis horizon
Amex platinum travel

I believe you have a very different use case, or you are starting new. Everyone started with the same mindset (me included). As your spending power increases over time, your lifestyle changes, and your approach to card spending w.r.t rewards changes too. Your conclusion in your comments"Summery - If we keep minimum cards with primary (Visa/Master card) + Rupay add-on card, and use it heavily across Rupay and other purchases, it would help get more points. Hence no point is hunting for higher rate rewards card." is highly biased and accurate for yourself, but not for everyone.
