As 2025 comes to an end, it’s hard to miss how much the credit card world has changed. We’ve seen benefit cuts, quiet devaluations, and rules changing more often than expected. With 2026 around the corner, it makes you wonder what’s coming next.
Recently, there’s been talk online about a new idea from banks—introducing a minimum spend requirement to keep certain super-premium credit cards. Apparently, paying the annual fee may no longer be enough. If your spending doesn’t match the “premium” tag, the bank could politely inform you and then close the card.
For many cardholders, this sounds a bit strange. After all, the whole point of paying a high annual fee was the freedom to use the card as much—or as little—as you wanted. Adding spending pressure on top of that feels unnecessary, if not a little unfair.
