HSBC Live+ Credit Card Review 2026: 10% Cashback Worth It?

HSBC Live+ Credit Card

The HSBC Live+ Credit Card has been around for years, but it remains one of the few cashback credit cards that specifically rewards everyday spending. While many cashback cards focus on online shopping or offer a flat cashback rate, the HSBC Live+ is built around categories that most cardholders spend on every month.

The card offers 10% cashback on eligible grocery, dining, and food delivery spends, along with 1.5% cashback on other eligible retail transactions. If a large share of your monthly expenses falls into these categories, the HSBC Live+ Credit Card can be a more rewarding option than several popular cashback cards. In this review, we take a closer look at its cashback structure, fees, eligibility, and whether it deserves a place in your wallet.

HSBC Live+ Credit Card Cashback Structure

The HSBC Live+ Credit Card has one of the better cashback structures for everyday spending, but only if your expenses align with its bonus categories. The 10% cashback covers groceries, dining, food delivery, eligible shopping and utility bill payments, while all other eligible domestic retail transactions earn a flat 1.5% cashback. Do note that HSBC has a fairly long list of excluded categories, so it’s important to know where the card earns rewards before using it.

Type of SpendCashbackMonthly Cap
Grocery, Dining, Food Delivery, Eligible Shopping & Utility Bill Payments10%₹1200 cashback per statement cycle
Other Eligible Domestic Retail Spends1.5%No cap
International SpendsNo cashback
Excluded CategoriesFuel, Rent, Wallet Loads, EMI, Insurance, Education, Government Payments, Jewellery, Gift Cards, Tolls, Property Management, Financial Institutions, Wholesale Clubs, Hospitals (MCC 8062), Local Transportation (MCC 4111) and other ineligible transactions

The exclusions may look overwhelming at first, but they mostly cover categories that many banks have stopped rewarding over the past few years. Where the HSBC Live+ Credit Card continues to do well is on recurring household expenses. If groceries, dining, food delivery, shopping and utility bills make up a large share of your monthly spending, the card can deliver excellent value despite the exclusions. On the other hand, if your spending is concentrated on categories like rent, insurance or international transactions, you’ll need another card to maximise rewards.

Cashback Credit: Unlike reward point-based credit cards, the HSBC Live+ Credit Card automatically credits the cashback earned in a billing cycle to your card account within 45 days of the statement date. There is no separate redemption process or minimum redemption threshold.

One important thing to note is that the 10% cashback on Shopping does not apply to Amazon, Flipkart or Myntra purchases. However, Amazon and Flipkart orders that are classified under the Grocery category (such as Amazon Fresh or Flipkart Minutes, where applicable) remain eligible for 10% cashback. Since cashback is determined by the merchant category code (MCC), the same platform can earn different cashback rates depending on the type of transaction.

How to Maximise the HSBC Live+ Credit Card

The HSBC Live+ Credit Card works best as your primary card for everyday household expenses. Instead of using it for every transaction, reserve it for the categories that earn 10% cashback.

  • Use it for grocery shopping at supermarkets such as DMart and Reliance Fresh, as well as eligible online grocery platforms like Blinkit, Amazon Fresh and Flipkart Minutes.
  • Pay for food delivery on Swiggy and Zomato to earn 10% cashback.
  • Use it when dining at restaurants and cafés.
  • Pay eligible utility bills and make purchases at eligible shopping merchants to maximise the accelerated cashback.
  • Remember that Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra retail shopping purchases are not eligible for 10% cashback under the Shopping category. However, grocery orders placed through Amazon Fresh or other eligible grocery merchants on Amazon and Flipkart can still qualify, depending on the merchant category code (MCC).
  • Avoid using the card for rent, fuel, insurance, education, government payments, hospital bills, local transportation and international transactions, as these do not earn cashback.

To maximise the card’s cashback potential, target around ₹12,000 in eligible 10% cashback spends per statement cycle. This is enough to earn the maximum ₹1200 cashback per month, translating to up to ₹14,400 cashback in a year. For most households, combining grocery shopping, dining, food delivery and utility bill payments is sufficient to reach this milestone without changing spending habits.

HSBC Live+ Credit Card Airport Lounge Access

While the HSBC Live+ Credit Card is primarily a cashback card, it also offers complimentary airport lounge access. Following the July 2026 revision, the lounge benefit has been scaled back, making it more suitable for occasional travellers than frequent flyers.

Domestic Airport Lounge Access2 complimentary visits per calendar year (maximum 1 visit every 6 months)
International Airport Lounge Access1 complimentary airport lounge visit per calendar year

Other Benefits

HSBC Cashback Credit Card - BookMyShow Offer

The HSBC Live+ Credit Card focuses on cashback rather than premium travel or lifestyle perks. However, it does offer a few additional benefits that can add value depending on your spending habits.

BenefitDetails
Movie BenefitBookMyShow Buy One Get One offer every Saturday (maximum discount of ₹250 per ticket)
Fuel Surcharge WaiverNot Available
Forex Markup Fee1.99%

The reduction in the forex markup from 3.5% to 1.99% is a welcome improvement for international transactions. However, international spends no longer earn cashback, so the HSBC Live+ Credit Card is best suited for domestic everyday spending rather than overseas purchases. While the additional benefits are fairly limited, the card’s biggest strength continues to be its cashback programme.

HSBC Live+ Credit Card Eligibility

To apply for the HSBC Live+ Credit Card, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Age: 18 to 65 years for salaried applicants and 25 to 65 years for self-employed applicants.
  • Minimum Annual Income: ₹6 lakh for salaried applicants and ₹12 lakh for self-employed applicants.
  • Residency: Must be an Indian resident.
  • Serviceable Cities: Chennai, Gurugram, Delhi NCR, Pune, Noida, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Amritsar, Vadodara, Indore, Lucknow, Nagpur and Surat.

Meeting the above criteria does not guarantee approval. HSBC also evaluates factors such as your credit score, repayment history, existing credit exposure and internal eligibility policies before approving a credit card application.

Who Should Get the HSBC Live+ Credit Card?

The HSBC Live+ Credit Card isn’t meant for everyone. It works best for cardholders whose monthly spending naturally falls into its highest cashback categories. You should consider this card if:

  • Your household spends a significant amount every month on groceries, dining, food delivery, shopping and utility bills.
  • You prefer earning cashback that’s automatically credited to your card account instead of dealing with reward points and redemptions.
  • You can comfortably spend ₹2 lakh or more in a membership year to get the annual fee waived.
  • You’re looking for an everyday cashback credit card rather than a travel-focused or premium lifestyle card.
  • You meet HSBC’s eligibility criteria, including the minimum income requirement and residence in a serviceable city.

If most of your monthly expenses are everyday essentials, the HSBC Live+ Credit Card can be a valuable addition to your wallet. However, if your spending is largely on travel, international transactions or categories that don’t earn cashback, you’ll likely get better value from another credit card.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • 10% cashback on eligible grocery, dining, food delivery, shopping and utility bill spends.
  • Unlimited 1.5% cashback on other eligible domestic retail spends.
  • Cashback is automatically credited to the card account with no redemption process.
  • Annual fee is waived on spending ₹2 lakh in a membership year.
  • Low 1.99% forex markup makes it a decent option for international transactions.
  • Complimentary domestic and international airport lounge access.

Cons

  • Available only in select cities served by HSBC.
  • 10% cashback is capped at ₹1200 per statement cycle.
  • Shopping cashback does not apply to Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra purchases.
  • No cashback on international transactions despite the lower forex markup.
  • Extensive list of excluded categories, including rent, fuel, insurance, education and government payments.
  • Airport lounge benefits have been reduced compared to the earlier version of the card.

Final Thoughts

The HSBC Live+ Credit Card has changed considerably over the years, but its core proposition remains the same – it rewards the expenses that most households incur every month. The July 2026 changes have reduced its appeal for frequent travellers by cutting lounge access and removing cashback on international spends, but they haven’t taken away what makes the card valuable.

For users who regularly spend on groceries, dining, food delivery, shopping and utility bills, the HSBC Live+ Credit Card can still generate excellent cashback. The ₹999 annual fee is modest, the ₹2 lakh fee waiver is achievable for most families, and the cashback is credited automatically without any redemption hassles.

That said, this isn’t a one-card solution. Categories such as rent, insurance, education, fuel and international transactions don’t earn cashback, so pairing it with another cashback or travel credit card will help maximise your overall rewards.

If your spending matches the card’s strengths, the HSBC Live+ Credit Card remains one of the most rewarding cashback credit cards in India for everyday domestic spending.

  2. can the lounge access be availed multiple times per quarter or is it just once per quarter?

    1. It doesn’t give 10% cashback on Milkbasket. The cashback is limited to 1.5% on milkbasket.

  3. Using this card from Sept 2024.
I would say they best non non-sense card you can have. I get cash back from groceries 1000Rs every month.
The only con that I found is it doesn’t show breakup from which transaction you get 10%. So its just guess.
Also cashback is credited within 2 days only. I think this is best card in market right now, no stupid reward points stuff.

  4. 1. I currently hold an hsbc visa platinum cc. Can I still apply for this and hold two hsbc cards ?

    2. If we fall short of 2L spend; Does hsbc provide annual fee waiver via requesting their cc team (like we can do in amex cards) ?

    Need your valuable suggestion..

  5. Will my spends on grocery/dining over 10k in a statement cycle earn 1.5 % cashback ?

      1. Further there is no clarity on cashback is applied for which spends listed in the statement, it happens to be some restaurants are not added to their Merchant list so 10% CB not applied for it. In Nov’24 my spending on Dining was Rs.5038.82 + other expenses were Rs.15500, but Cashback credited against these spends was just Rs.509 which doesn’t give any clarity on expenses that were omitted for CB. Even if we consider 10% spends on Dining & Stationary the CB should be Rs.503.

    1. No. Whatever you spend on Dining & Grocery above 10K doesn’t gain 1.5% unlimited cash back. Last month 1 spent 22K on Dining & Grocery but, got cashback of Rs.1000 only. That’s the main disadvantage of this card.

    2. I recommend you use SMS expense manger like Axio (I’ve been using for past 10 years) to track card expense so that you can spend card wisely and thereby maximize savings!!
