After a long time, HDFC Bank has launched new credit cards. This time it is co-branded credit cards with Shoppers Stop. This is also HDFC Bank’s first launch after the RBI lifted the ban. We have two variants – base and Black. While the base variant is not that great, the higher Black variant is a rewarding card for Shoppers Stop customers. Shoppers Stop HDFC Bank Credit Card
The base variant is an ok attempt and comes with low rewards. We get welcome ‘Discount Vouchers’ worth Rs 500 that can be used on shopping of Rs 5000 from private brands.

- Spends on Private Brands: 6 First Citizen RP/Rs 150 ~ 3.6% Return (capped at 500 RP/month)
- All Other Spends: 2 First Citizen RP/Rs 150 ~1.2% Return
- Bonus 2000 RP on Rs 2 Lakhs spend in a year
- Each Shoppers Stop RP is equal to 60 paise.
Shoppers Stop HDFC Bank Black Credit Card
The higher variant Black card is good with its rewards. If you have high spending at Shoppers Stop, this can be a good option. The annual fee of this card is not known yet.

- 3 X Rs 500 Welcome ‘Discount Vouchers’ redeemable on shopping for Rs 5000 from Private Brands
- Spends on Private Brands: 20 First Citizen RP/Rs 150 ~ 12% Return (capped at 2000 RP/month)
- Other Shoppers Stop Spends: 15 First Citizen RP/Rs 150 ~9% Return
- All Other Spends: 5 First Citizen RP/Rs 150 ~3% Return
- Each Shoppers Stop RP is equal to 60 paise.
The ‘First Citizen BLACK Membership’ is a good addition to this card. The membership gives another 10% First Citizen RP on all spending at Shoppers Stop. So, the total benefit comes to 18% on private brands and 15% on other spending at Shoppers Stop.

- 1% fuel surcharge waiver (up to Rs 250/month)
- HDFC Bank Smartbuy offers. Maximum cashback up to Rs 2500/month.
- Airport Lounge Access only for Black variant. 4 visits/quarter for domestic lounges and 2 visits/quarter for international lounges.
Final Thoughts
HDFC Bank was silent for quite a long time due to the RBI ban. But, we can expect many more new launches going forward.
The Shoppers Stop HDFC Black credit card looks good for Shoppers Stop customers. For Infinia customers, this card does not offer much extra value except the ‘First Citizen Black’ membership. We already get 16.5% rewards on Infinia for Shoppers Stop gift vouchers from Smartbuy.
The main challenge for these cards will be HDFC Bank’s one-card policy. It still does not ‘officially’ allow customers to hold more than one credit card. Yes, we have exceptions but it needs to be opened up. HDFC Bank has some great credit cards like Regalia, Privilege, Infinia, and DCB. No one will want to give those up for co-branded credit cards.
