ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver Credit Card Review: Fees

The annual fee waiver at Rs 1.5 Lakh is quite high for a fuel credit card. It should have been around Rs 50000 considering the rewards and the max caps. The spend threshold for annual fee waiver will exclude rent, government, and education payments made via credit card.

ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver Credit Card Review: Rewards

We earn ICICI Bank Reward Points on all transactions except fuel. Each Reward Point is equal to 25 paise for all redemption options.

  • Foreign Currency Markup: 3.5%+GST ~4.1%
  • There is not much of an advantage in the 5% rewards on groceries and utilities with the low caps. We will hit this caps on spends of Rs 2000 on utilities, groceries and departmental stores.
  • The caps on fuel hold good till spends of Rs 5000 in a month. This is inline with what other HPCL co-branded credit cards offer.

Reaching the spends required for annual fee waiver can be difficult!

With the reward caps in place, we can spend up to Rs 60000 on fuel and 24000 on utilities, groceries and departmental stores to get accelerated rewards. The cumulative spend of Rs 84000 is not enough to get the annual fee waiver.

LTF Kiwi RuPay Credit Card

With the annual fee waiver set at Rs 1.5L, we have two options:

Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card
  • Option 1: Spend extra Rs 66000 to get annual fee waiver and get only 0.5% rewards that is Rs 330 on those. Another cashback card like Axis Ace would give us a minimum of Rs 990 in cashback on this spend.
  • Option 2: Stop spending and pay the annual fee of Rs 590. Considering above option, we would rather pay the annual fee and use other credit cards.

Complimentary Airport Lounge Access

  • Domestic Airport Lounge Access: 1 visit/quarter
  • International Airport Lounge Access: Not Available

We need to have minimum spends of Rs 75,000 in the preceding calendar quarter to get complimentary airport lounge access. Spends made in the preceding calendar quarter will unlock access for the subsequent calendar quarter. For example, to be eligible for complimentary lounge access in Apr-May-Jun quarter, you need to spend a minimum of Rs 35,000 in the January-February-March quarter.

Other Key Benefits

  • 24*7 roadside assistance
  • 25% discount (up to Rs 100) on BookMyShow and Inox. Valid twice/month.

Final Thoughts

The ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver credit card has the usual issues that come with we have on fuel credit cards. The low caps on accelerated rewards and high annual fee waiver spend requirements lower the total reward rate. If you can get this card LTF, this is a good one to have for fuel spends.
