What is common between fuel, phone bills, and utility bills? All three are essential expenses for any family and are also excluded from rewards for most cards. If you have nominal expenses in these categories, then the Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium credit card can be a good choice. With a low annual fee, this card can provide good value for some of your expenses. Here is a review of the Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium credit card rewards and benefits.
Eligibility
- Applicant Age: 21 to 65 years
- Minimum Monthly Income: Rs 55000
Fees and Charges
Joining Fee | Rs 750 plus GST (LTF for Premium Banking) |
Welcome Benefit | 100% cashback up to Rs 1500 at fuel pumps within first 90 days |
Annual Fee | Rs 750 plus GST (LTF for Premium Banking) |
Annual Fee Waiver | Rs 90000 spends in a membership year |
The welcome benefit is a nice touch. It is 2X the joining fee (excluding GST). With fuel prices touching new highs, the welcome benefit can be used up easily.
Rewards
The USP of the SC Super Value Titanium credit card is 5% cashback on fuel, utility and telecom bills. While the max caps are rather low, it is still something that may be useful if you have low spends.
Category | Cashback | Max Transaction Amount | Cap |
---|---|---|---|
Fuel | 4% + 1% fuel surcharge waiver | Rs 2000 | Rs 200 per month |
BBPS Utility Bills | 5% | NA | Rs 100 per month |
BBPS Telecom Bills | 5% | Rs 200 per month | |
Other Spends | 1 RP per Rs 150 ~0.17% |
All other spends get 1RP per Rs 150 which is a return of around 0.17%. So, there is no point in spending with the Super Value Titanium credit card anywhere else outside fuel, utility and telecom bills.
With the caps above, we need to spend the below amounts before hitting the max cashback cap:
- Fuel: Rs 4000 per month
- BBPS Utility Bills: Rs 2000 per month
- BBPS Telecom Bills: Rs 4000 per month
We would have liked to see the max caps on utility and telecom bills interchanged. Utility bills are mostly higher than telecom bills. So, it may not be possible to hit the cap on telecom bills every month in most cases.
So, let us assume that we spend Rs 4000 on fuel and Rs 2000 each on utility and telecom bills every month. This gives us as cashback of Rs 400 on spends of Rs 8000 per month. This makes the annual spend as Rs 96000 which is also enough to get the annual fee waiver. All this while getting 5% cashback on all spends.
Rewards Redemption
The cashback and reward points can be redeemed from Standard Chartered’s 360 rewards portal. Each reward point is worth 25 paise. While there are products for redemption, the best option is to redeem from the available gift vouchers.
There is a charge of Rs 99 plus GST per redemption request for the Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium card. This is only applicable for reward points redemption, not for cashback redemption.
Pros
- Good welcome benefit against joining fee
- 5% cashback on essential spends
- Easy to achieve annual fee waiver
Cons
- Very low cap for 5% cashback categories
- Redemption fees even for an entry-level credit card
- No complimentary airport lounge access
Final Thoughts
While the return rate looks good on the Super Value Titanium card, we would still not recommend this one. For the simple reason, that there are many better credit cards. We can use either the Tata Neu Infinity and Axis Ace to get 5% cashback on utility bills. Both of these do not have a cap on rewards for paying utility bills for now. Another good option is the Airtel Axis Bank credit card that offers 25% cashback on Airtel spends and 10% cashback on utility bills.
For fuel, you can check BPCL SBI Octane or other fuel credit cards. With fuel getting expensive, the caps on the Super Value Titanium will not be enough for most of us.
